Dr. Emmanuel Barki, the acting rector of Benue Polytechnic in Ugbokolo, Benue State, along with three other staff members, has been abducted by gunmen.
They were kidnapped while returning to Ugbokolo after an official assignment in Makurdi, the state capital, along the Otukpo-Otukpa Road. One of the victims was released due to ill health.
According to sources close to the rector’s family, the kidnappers have contacted them and demanded a ransom of N70 million.
Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the abduction and stated that investigations are ongoing.
Joseph Har, the security adviser to the state governor, also confirmed the incident, noting that security personnel are conducting operations to rescue the abducted individuals.
