The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo on Tuesday pledged support for families of four people who died at Jattu Market in Etsako West Local Government Area after thunderstorm.
The incident was said to have occurred following an early morning rain on Monday that caused trees to fall on those in the market.
Some others were also injured and they are presently recovering at an undisclosed hospital in the area.
The Chairman of the council, Marvellous Zibiri, on Monday, confirmed the death of the persons while speaking to journalists at the market.He said, “Between 8:am and 9:am on Monday, I got a call from my vice chairman and the supervisory councillor for environment about the incident that happened at the Jattu market.
“During the rainfall, four trees in the market fell at the same while people took cover under the trees thereby killing four persons and injuring many others.

Zibiri described the incident as a tragedy and sympathised with families who lost their love ones, appealing to residents of the local government to stay indoor whenever it rains.
Okpebholo, in a statement signed by his legislative side on media and communication, Godswill Inegbe, expressed his heartfelt sympathy to those who died and the injured.
He called on the state government to live up to its responsibilities by immediately coming to the assistance of the victims currently receiving treatment in hospitals and the families of victims who lost their lives in the unfortunate tragic incident.
He added, “I can assure the people of Edo North Senatorial District and the families of the victims of my unwavering solidarity and goodwill during these trying times.
“This painful loss of lives, homes and livelihoods remains a shared grief that further unites us together.
“I will also assist the victims and their families in overcoming this tragedy,” he added.
