Federal Government Plans Major Hike In Aviation Charges Despite Industry Complaints

007Reporters - 08:22pm

The Federal Government is set to implement a significant increase in aviation charges, intensifying concerns from the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) regarding multiple taxation issues.
At a seminar hosted by the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents in Ikeja on Friday, July 26, Umar Farouk, Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), announced the forthcoming changes. Farouk revealed that the agency will be raising its en-route navigational charges substantially. The current rates of N2,000 and N6,000 per flight will jump to N18,000 and N54,000, respectively.

Industry experts predict that these hikes could lead to a corresponding increase in airfares, potentially escalating by as much as 800 percent. The move comes amid ongoing criticisms from the aviation sector about the financial pressures from various levies and taxes.

The new charges are set to take effect soon, prompting concerns about their impact on both airlines and passengers.
