Popular Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that his reduced social media followers was a big stumbling block in his career growth in the Nigerian movie industry.
The movie star while speaking in an interview on the Echo Room podcast said he got to know about this after attending a lot of auditions and being judged by the number of followers he has on Instagram.
Deyemi said he eventually came to the decision to not fight it and instead focus on building his brand.
He said;
“Not having Instagram followers hindered me. I would tell myself, ‘I’m the guy who comes to kill himself on set. Why am I being judged by the number of followers I have?
“I said to myself, there is no point fighting it. There’s always going to be a new set of people who focus more on the brand than the craft. So I said let me start some brand-building.”
