A nine-year-old girl has lost her life after being struck by a tipper truck in Akungba-Akoko, located in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the tragic incident occurred around Supare Junction on Supare Road on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the development to journalists in Akure on Monday, stating that the driver involved has been taken into custody.
“The Police Command in Ondo State regrets to confirm a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, resulting in the d3ath of a nine-year-old girl,” he said.
“The victim was reportedly knocked down by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”
He added that the vehicle has been recovered for inspection, while investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police command also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice would be pursued.
Jimoh further urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies, assuring that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the cause of the accident and ensure accountability.
