Nigerian comedian Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, has stirred controversy on social media after claiming he has enjoyed consistent electricity supply since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office.
Mr Jollof made the statement in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he spoke about the improvement in power supply in his area. His remarks quickly triggered mixed reactions online, especially as many Nigerians continue to complain about frequent power outages across the country.
In the video, the comedian explained that he was only speaking from his personal experience and was not trying to dismiss the struggles of others facing poor electricity supply.
“I have the right to share my personal experience, just as everyone else has the right to express their own views,” he said.

According to him, electricity in his area has improved by about 85 percent compared to previous administrations, adding that the stability has made the use of inverters unnecessary.
“I want to show how we have been able to enjoy a stable electricity supply since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came into power. The situation now is much better than it was before. I don’t even need an inverter anymore,” he stated.
Mr Jollof also pointed out that the current administration has introduced policies allowing states to generate and distribute electricity independently. He advised Nigerians experiencing poor electricity supply to channel their complaints to their state governors and commissioners for power and energy.
“Go ask your governor or your commissioner of power and energy why you’re not getting electricity,” he said.
Despite his explanation, the video has attracted criticism from many social media users, with some accusing the comedian of defending the government amid ongoing complaints about unstable electricity across the country.
The timing of the video also intensified reactions, as some communities have recently protested over persistent power outages.
