A Nigerian woman, Izzy Ogbeide, has opened up about the challenges faced by young women involved in prostitution in Italy, including alleged neglect from some religious institutions.
Ogbeide claimed that certain pastors were aware that young girls were being trafficked into prostitution but failed to take action to help them.
According to her, the situation was widely known within some communities, yet little was done to intervene or provide support to the victims.
“Pastors in Italy were aware that young girls are being trafficked, yet they do nothing,” she alleged.
Ogbeide further revealed that during that period, the only support they received came from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which provided basic health assistance.
She explained that the humanitarian organization helped by distributing condoms to protect the women from sexually transmitted infections.
“The only organization that reached out to us was the Red Cross, which provided condoms,” she said.
Her revelation has since sparked conversations online about human trafficking, the vulnerability of migrant women, and the role institutions can play in supporting victims.
