A heartbreaking video has surfaced online showing the elderly mother of a Nigerian soldier openly criticizing the government over what she described as the poor welfare of soldiers fighting insurgents.
In the emotional video, the woman lamented that her son and other soldiers have been abandoned in the bush while carrying out operations against insurgents. According to her, her son frequently calls her to complain about the harsh conditions and suffering they endure on the battlefield.
She recalled that her husband served in the Nigerian Army for 36 years and never experienced the level of hardship her son is currently facing. The distressed mother said she has even advised her son to return home if the situation becomes unbearable.
The woman also accused Nigerian leaders of neglecting the soldiers and called on the government to urgently improve their welfare.
Speaking emotionally in the video, she pleaded with authorities not to abandon the troops risking their lives for the country. She also prayed for divine intervention and asked God to avenge the suffering soldiers are going through.
“My husband served in the Army for 36 years and never experienced this kind of suffering. Now these young children are in the bush going through so much,” she said.
She added that she has told her son to return home if he can no longer cope, stressing that his life is more important.
The elderly woman further appealed to the Nigerian government to take immediate action and provide better care and support for soldiers deployed in combat zones, saying many of them are suffering daily while defending the nation.
