Nigerian singer Chike has accused a social media user, Chioma Nneoma Ochibili, of allegedly defrauding him in a business transaction that later went sour.
The music star made the allegation in a series of posts on X on Monday morning, where he explained how the deal reportedly unfolded.
According to Chike, he paid Ochibili around $20,000 after she introduced what she claimed was a business opportunity. However, he said he later discovered that the proposed venture allegedly did not exist.
Sharing his frustration online, the singer said he was stunned to realise he may have been misled.
“Chioma Nneoma Ochibili, so you are a thief? That’s how they do it. They’ll tell you they are running a certain business, but the real business is surviving on your money.
$50,000 in the air. $20,000 of my hard-earned money I haven’t seen either. How did I only realise this late that I’m just another person she has duped? Even I’m laughing at myself,” he wrote.
Chike also warned his followers to be cautious and avoid entering into any business dealings with the woman.
After some users asked him to clarify the type of business involved, the singer responded that the exact nature of the venture was not the main issue.
According to him, the bigger concern is that the supposed business allegedly never existed in the first place.
“Whatever business Chioma sells to you is not the issue. The major issue is that the business does not even exist, which then amounts to fraud,” he added.
The singer further revealed that he has started taking steps to recover the money he claims to have lost.
He explained that the arrangement was initially presented as a legitimate investment opportunity, but the situation became alarming after he allegedly discovered that the business itself was not real.
“For context, it was a business transaction, but when the business does not even exist, that becomes fraud. When you realise this is Chioma’s modus operandi, it becomes very worrying,” Chike said.
