A Nigerian lady has criticised men for what she described as a lack of depth in conversations during the early stages of dating.
According to her, many men fail to engage in meaningful discussions and instead ask what she considers trivial questions such as “What’s your favourite colour?” or “What do your exes do?”
She expressed her frustration on social media, explaining that she prefers intellectually stimulating exchanges. “Men in Nigeria don’t know how to hold an intellectual conversation,” she said.
The woman, who identifies as a sapiosexual — a person who is primarily attracted to intelligence — stated that mental compatibility is more important to her than superficial topics.
“I don’t need that. I’m sapiosexual; challenge me,” she added.
She further explained that intellectual engagement is just as important as physical or emotional attraction, especially during the early stages of a relationship.
Her comments have sparked debate online, with many agreeing that meaningful conversations are often lacking among young men in dating situations. Others, however, argued that casual questions can help break the ice and gradually build rapport.
The discussion has also highlighted evolving dating expectations in Nigeria, where intelligence and depth are increasingly seen as important factors in attraction.
