The United States Department of State has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information that could lead to the identification, location, arrest, or prosecution of Mojtaba Khamenei, who has reportedly emerged as Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
In the announcement, the department also named several other senior Iranian officials as persons of interest. Among those listed are Eskandar Momeni and Esmail Khatib, along with others linked to Iran’s security and intelligence apparatus.
According to U.S. authorities, the individuals are accused of directing elements of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Washington alleges has been involved in planning and carrying out terrorist activities around the world.
The reward is being offered through the Rewards for Justice Program, a U.S. government initiative that provides financial compensation for credible information that helps authorities locate or prosecute individuals connected to terrorism.
Officials added that people with relevant information can submit tips through secure communication channels. Those who provide valuable intelligence may also be eligible for relocation support in addition to the monetary reward.
“These individuals command and direct various elements of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which plans, organizes and executes terrorism around the world,” the State Department said.
The development follows the death of Iran’s longtime Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in a bombing on February 28 at the start of the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
