Every community has its story, and every generation has a question it must answer. For us in Ohuhu, that question is simple —
Do our youth really have a voice?
Youth empowerment in Ohuhu
As someone from Umuagu Autonomous Community in Umuhu Etiti ward, and currently serving as the Youth Chairman of Ngbagoro Village, I’ve seen what our young people can do when they unite behind purpose.
And from what I’ve witnessed, I can say confidently — yes, the youth of Ohuhu have a voice.
Not just any voice, but a strong one that’s finally being heard.
🌍 The Spirit of Ohuhu
Ohuhu has always been blessed — not just with land, but with people of great character and vision.
One man that stands tall in our history is Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara, a proud son of Ohuhu who once served as the Premier of Eastern Nigeria.
Dr. Okpara believed in agriculture, unity, and hard work. He showed us that leadership isn’t about position; it’s about purpose and results.
That same spirit of service and determination is what I see growing again among today’s Ohuhu youth.
🧭 Our Youth Leadership Journey
The Ohuhu Welfare Union Youth Wing has been around for many years, led by dedicated men from different parts of our land — each playing a role in shaping what we have today.
Here’s a quick look at the journey so far:
-
Ogwuilu – Umuda Isingwu (2003–2006)
-
Ononogbu C. Nwosu – Afugiri (2006–2009)
-
Iheanyi Uche (Steady) – Ubaha (Interim)
-
Mr. James – Afugiri (Interim)
-
Last Don – Umuda Isingwu (Interim)
-
Chocho Onwubiko – Umuezeroma (Immediate Past President)
-
Anyanwu 1 Gavin Iheanacho – Umuawa Alaocha (2024 – Till Date Of This Post)
Each of these men, in their own time, helped build the foundation we’re standing on today.
💪 One Year of Real Progress
As of today, the current youth administration led by Anyanwu 1 Gavin Iheanacho has completed one year in office — and truth be told, this one year has been nothing short of remarkable.
The energy and progress we’re seeing now are inspiring.
This administration has achieved things many thought were not possible in such a short time — things that even past administrations overlooked or couldn’t execute.
Now, this isn’t to discredit the efforts of those before them. They laid the groundwork that made today’s progress possible.
But we must also be honest — the current leadership has shown a level of strength, unity, and drive that feels new and refreshing.
From better communication among youth blocs to active involvement in community matters, this team has proven that Ohuhu youth are not just talking — they are acting.
🌱 Signs That Our Voice Is Being Heard
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll notice the change already:
✅ Community engagement: Youth leaders are now more active in decision-making and community discussions.
✅ Skill empowerment: Programs and trainings are being introduced to help young people learn and earn.
✅ Agriculture: Initiatives like “Go Back to Farm” are bringing back the culture of hard work and self-reliance.
✅ Sports and unity: The Ohuhu Unity League continues to bring joy, pride, and togetherness to our communities.
✅ Cultural revival: Events like Ohuhu Day have been re-energized with more youth participation than before.
All these show that the voice of the youth isn’t being ignored anymore — it’s finally being respected.
⚖️ What We Still Need to Work On
Even though there’s real progress, we’re not there yet.
Some of our youths, especially in smaller villages, still feel left out.
Development shouldn’t be limited to one bloc or a few communities — it should spread across Isingwu, Ohiya, Oriendu, Ofeme, and Umuhu Etiti.
We need to make sure everyone benefits, no matter where they live.
More partnerships, transparency, and inclusion will help us move faster and stronger.
🔥 The Strength of Today’s Youth
One thing that gives me joy is how united Ohuhu youths are becoming.
We now see beyond politics and clan boundaries. We are learning that progress only comes when we stand together.
Whether it’s in tech, farming, music, or entrepreneurship, the young people of Ohuhu are beginning to make their mark.
And that’s exactly the spirit that will drive us into the future.
💬 My Message to Every Ohuhu Youth
Let’s keep using our voice — but use it wisely.
Let’s not just talk, but act.
Let’s support those doing good, and encourage those trying.
Let’s stay united across all blocs and villages, because a divided youth cannot lead a united future.
Remember:
-
Support good leadership.
-
Learn a skill or trade.
-
Get involved in community matters.
-
Speak positively about your people.
-
Protect our culture and values.
✊ Final Thoughts
So, do Ohuhu youth really have a voice?
Yes, we do — and it’s louder than ever.
The difference is clear: this generation isn’t just talking about change; we’re living it.
The current youth administration has shown that results don’t depend on how long you lead, but on how well you lead.
As a proud son of Umuagu in Umuhu Etiti, and the Youth Chairman of Ngbagoro Village, I believe this new wave of leadership is the best we’ve seen in years.
The passion is real, the unity is strong, and the progress is visible.
Let’s keep that fire burning.
Because when the youth of Ohuhu rise and speak as one, our entire land becomes unstoppable.
